Yes, you read that right. Me, one of the biggest PC guys out there just spent money on an Apple. I have several reasons for this. Firstly, I needed a new computer anyway. :-) But mostly because I want to learn Final Cut. Being that its sort of the gold standard in the video editing world, if I hope to land a video career, knowing how to use that program is an important step.
Plus, even us PC guys have to admit that Apple makes some damn sexy hardware. So. I got an iMac. I got the 20-incher with 2 gigs of RAM, a 500 gig hard drive and a 256 meg video card.
And for all my PC friends out there, don't worry...I'll be installing Windows as well. :-)
But still, for someone who's spent his entire life with PCs and even makes his living fixing them, a venture into the Mac world is a bit intimidating. My sole experience with Macs is in the Apple store. I have zero experience using the OS on a daily basis. Hopefully I can adapt because I'll have to use it for Final Cut. For all else I can just boot to windows. :-)
Anyway, I ordered the system last week and it should be arriving next week. I plan to make this a series of articles detailing a PC guy's foray into the world of Apple. It should be fun.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Macs. I don't particularly care for the Apple fanboys who insist that Apple is better than Windows "just because," but I think the systems and OS is a great choice for some. I hate closed minds in general and I never want to be accused of having one. But the same goes for all of you...so don't turn this article into a comment-fest of why one is better than the other for stupid reasons. Okay? Okay.
I created the my-new-computer tag for anyone who cares to follow my series of articles.
Part two will be my first impressions of the thing. I'm excited...stay tuned!
